Application Process

When applying for a MICAH Fund Grant the following process is used.  Note:  To allow enough time to complete this process it is best to contact the MICAH Fund right after the completion of your home study.

  1. Applicants for grants request an application by contacting the MICAH Fund by phone, mail or e-mail.  See the contact information at this page of our Web site.
  2. The MICAH Fund intake coordinator contacts the applicants by phone to determine whether all criteria for grant consideration are met.
  3. If qualified the MICAH Fund intake coordinator sends the couple the application forms.
  4. The applicants complete the forms and return them by mail to the MICAH Fund.  A copy of the applicants completed and approved home study must also accompany the application.
  5. The MICAH Fund assigns an interview team and the interview team leader contacts applicants to arrange an interview.
  6. Interviews typically occur on an every-six-week basis and are usually conducted at the MICAH Fund Committee meeting locations.  Note: Please ensure the MICAH Fund is contacted far enough in advance to ensure an interview can take place well before placement of the adopted child.
  7. After the interview, the interview team will decide whether applicants qualify for a grant.  If so, the grant will be submitted for approval to the MICAH Fund Committee.  The interview team leader will follow up by phone to inform the applicants of the outcome – typically within a week.
  8. If a grant is approved, the applicants are instructed to contact the interview team leader when they receive a referral.  At that time the process to determine the amount of the grant will start. Typically we don’t decide a grant amount until within 1 month of the due date. As determined by the MICAH Fund Committee the interview team leader notifies applicants of grant amount.
  9. The adoptive parents will be responsible to contact the interview team leader when the child has been officially placed with the family.  Payment of the grant will be made to the adoption agency when the family returns home.  Checks are never written to adoptive parents.
  10. After placement the interview team leader contacts the applicants to obtain necessary information to complete MICAH Fund paper work, i.e., name of child, date of birth, and placement date.
  11. Applicants will be contacted at a later time to request photos and information for the newsletter.
